Festivals in a Time of Pandemic

Bigueños, the residents of Vigan City, are already looking forward to an annual celebration at this time. This is the Feast of the City of Vigan, celebrated on the 25th day of January each year in honor of St. Paul the Apostle, the patron saint of the city. Locals and visitors come together to see street dances, carnivals, food fairs, and arts and crafts, contributing to the UNESCO World Heritage City attraction.

However, after a virus dominated the world, things have changed. Luckily, a solution to this risk has been identified by the city government. Officials have implemented strict social distancing and the use of protective equipment to prevent the spread of the virus, despite celebrating the festival. Vigan municipality did not let the virus interrupt the festival completely. They did live streaming for people who couldn't watch it personally. They can't let the virus deter the town from embracing its culture.

Events that can not be taken away from Filipinos are festivals. It is a way to boost tourism, get together, and celebrate success. Festivals in the Philippines, no matter what the situation might be, are celebrated without fail. As they have introduced ways to avoid the spread of the virus, the COVID-19 pandemic could not stop Vigan City from celebrating its festivals. Festivals held during the pandemic might not be the same as before, but without causing risks to people, at least it can still achieve its purpose.
